Yesterday, the Space Shuttle Discovery departed Earth on it's final mission. Among the cargo aboard, was one astronaut who's name was not publicly announced. My beautiful friend, and band mate- Clare Armory has left our Planet Earth. Her soul has been set free to bless this mad universe that we all live in. I know how difficult that it is to lose a loved one to cancer. I lost my mother nine years ago to the same ravaging disease. It was the hardest thing that I have ever had to deal with in my life. My mother was 57 when she lost her 29 year battle with cancer. Clare was 35. Any age is too young to be taken from us. It hurts so much.
CLARE AT THE LIBERTY INN- Chicago Il. 2009
Being in this Excepter is a crazy thing. Excepter existed at a time before Clare, Lala, Nathan, and me were on the roster. I have fond memories of standing next to these people watching it happen. If you would have asked any of us in 2002, before "KA" came out, that we'd one by one be bought into the cipher to experience the Excepter from the other side of the window... I don't know what I am even getting at... the deep friendships that are created through spending time with one another, playing music, becoming a family- in a sense I've lost a sister. We all have. It is going to be a difficult blow to recover from- Losing our (physical) Clare. Being in a band with two couples is the craziest experience I've ever had playing music.
Excepter is the only time where I never felt bad being a "third wheel" as they say. I was so excited to play Bass Guitar again (after a self imposed six year hiatus) when I knew that Clare would be backing me up on the (digital) skins. It was just the best time- playing music with her. Talking about movies. Hanging out, cooking dinner. Paling around. She was so g#ddamned funny.
AAARGH!!!

I miss you so much, already. We all do. It all happened so fast.
EARLIER IN THE DAY
CHILLING
Lets do ourselves a solid and send out some positive energy for the Amory and Corbin families. Let's hope that the future can one days give us some answers about this mysterious bitch called Cancer.
I was so privileged to have been able to spend the time with you that I did. I will never forget you and you will live forever! Your "Flesh and Bone" will continue to help others, as did your music, and love. I love you.

ACTION FOR FREEDOM: NEW WORKS BY LEE WELLS
ACTION FOR FREEDOM: NEW WORKS BY LEE WELLS
Reception: Thursday, February 17, 2011, 6 – 8pm
Rooster Gallery Contemporary Art announces “Action For Freedom, New Works by Lee Wells”, featuring new video action paintings from the “Soul Series”, opening on Thursday February 17, 2011.
"Veiled Woman #1"
Oil on Canvas
2011
...The catalog will include an essay by the curator Lara Pan and will be released publicly at an event where Wells will be discussing the exhibition on March 6th, at the gallery from 12-6pm.
Lee Wells (born 1971), offers a complex juxtaposition of images which engage issues of war, sexuality, freedom and liberation. Deeply rooted in the history of painting and dialogue of the Avant-garde, “Action For Freedom”, presents portraits of humanity as an attempt to create order within the chaos, confusion and wonder of the early 21st century.
"Soul Series #3"
Oil and Acrylic on Panel
with Video and LED Screen
2010
Wells juxtaposes two distinct bodies of work in the upper and lower galleries at Rooster, which together discuss the cultural implosion of the global spectacle on the collective psyche in the super modern era.
Wells’ immersive high definition works for “Video Forest” are currently on view through 2014 at the Kimpo International Airport, Seoul, Korea, and was most recently commissioned by the Guggenheim Museum to write an essay on new video art and the Avant-garde.
"The Pirate Flag"
HD VIDEO
2010
His artworks have been exhibited internationally for over 15 years, including the 51st Venice Biennale; PS1/MoMA, New York, NY; and the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg, Russia. In addition, other Wells’ works are held by the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL.; the National Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN.; U.S. Army Military History Institute, Carlisle, PA.; Hana Bank, Seoul, Korea, and numerous private collections.

SPLATTERPOOL and ELECTRONIC MUSIC FOUNDATION PRESENT:
FIFTH in the DEAD OF WINTER WORKS #1-6 // curated by Maria Chavez
FUTURE ARCHAEOLOGY

...
FUTURE ARCHAEOLOGY presents an experiment in sound, drawing, and human conductivity. A graphite drawing filling the gallery wall diagrams the hexagonal, layered structure of carbon in its graphite form. This wall drawing becomes a network capable of conducting an electrical current. Out of this network emerges an evolving sound environment that provides the basis for an exploration of the conductivity and resistance of human touch.

Splatterpool Art Space
138 Bayard St
Brooklyn, NY 11222
