Remember when you discovered "underground" music?
... and Husker Du was god? The first Husker Du record I heard was "Land Speed Record". I was 12 year old, and, Sunny Masek's sister (Tricia?), lent me 2 records, "Land Speed Record" and Butthole Surfers- "Brown Reason to live". Do the Bee was my favorite song. It took me some time to realize that that they didn't make a record player that played at 69RPM with the Butthole Surfers record, so, I listened to it at both 33.3 and 45RPM. It was equally nightmarish. The punk wave was sweeping through the waste lands of the city and the suburbs in 1984-5. All ages shows allowed the under age to congregate with one another, developing friends in different areas, before having even a drivers license. It was an "older kids" place, and they let you know it, until, they'd seen you around for a year or two, then it was about respect. Following bands was a lot of fun, before the internet- Correspondence, fanzines and hand bills. All this time later, I am thankful to play in a band that does shit, and turn people on, like I was turned on. Punk, or, hardcore punk music seemed small, intimate, even in my 12 year old mind. There were few kids that you could even talk to about this type of music with in 1985. Hell, we were still break dancing, but that was the flip side of youth culture. What was music for nerds in 1985 became music for football teams in 1992, at least in my experience. I had a deep resentment for the grunge scene, in high school. I blamed them for exposing what was small and intimate to the greater world of ass holes. I'd come to learn that this theory is garbage and it's all about the circle of life. Circle Pit.

Making Ends Meet
I am extremely pissed, to say the least. At least I aquired an awesome bike. Can you believe someone threw this bike away. It cost me 22 dollars in parts and about an hours time to get rolling. Mine is the 3 speed version. I salvaged a Schwinn seat from a dying bike on Knickerbocker Ave. It's the flip side of seeing stripped bike locked up and abandoned. You know what they say about one man's garbage...

Bark at the Moon...
... What a night. On my way to "Shea Stadium" in East Williamsburg, I think I saw someone being mugged on Meserole St. by 2 teenagers with a large stick or a bat, while someone looked on passively from 20 ft. away. I was riding my bike and it didn't look serious when I went by. When I rode past them the kids broke out and the victim gave chase, leaving his grocery bags and flip flops on the side walk. The dude who was 20Ft. away said he wasn't paying attention, and was only outside to smoke a cigarette. I arrive @ Shea. Nice Venue. Great Energy and some serious experimental music. There was a Syrian BBQ across the street that I wish we could have been pat of. One man's pop music, is another man's vision quest. The full Moon was glorious. It lent itself to Telecult Powers and JFR as SETH and their project- Virginal Volcanoes. They really took it to the edge of infinity. Supporting acts, Grass Hoppers, Zone Dogs, and Glen and the Boys, really set the tone for the evening. Perfect show for 5 bucks. I'll definitely be going back to Shea! After the show, feeling good, I want to the Coon to pick up my roomie who was locked out. To make a long story short, right around 4:30 shit got wild. This seemingly nerdy dude totally beat the shit out of 2 people, one of which was my friend, who totally got his jaw broke and had to have his mouth wired shut! Totally fucked up. I didn't see the second fight but helped to seperate the two in the first one. That nerd packed a wallop of a punch. He should have gotten stomped, Boot Party style, but didn't. I wasn't outside. Had I been, we might have been some. "in jail with out no bail", mother fuckers! That Side Show Bob looking mugg has an SOS out on him. He'' never come back. Just a brawler in the night...

More Alex Novaga, Jesse Velez, WBMX, and some Old School North Side for that ass...
Two facts: 1.)You Tube is better than myspace for music.2)There is no hiding my Chicago roots. We grew up with the best radio in the world. Where else could you hear...
There are some great cover songs. I don't know what it is. They are fun to listen to, when some one can make a song their own.
Jesse Velez. This shit reminds me of the South Side, too much. I love it. Rest in Peace. Your music keeps you alive forever...
WBMX and the Love Tempo live mix. This was my radio station when I was in the sixth grade.
... and some things just were not on the radio. I saw some of the first unchaperoned concerts at this Venue. My mother or brother would usually be waiting for me in the McDonalds parking lot on the far side, across the street. In picking me up from just having seen Social Distortion and Sham 69, she said she'd never she'd never pick me up again from a punk show again after getting the hood of the car spit on by some one dressed up "all in spikes and leather". She'd end up making my brother do it, eventually trusting me to get to these events under my own power. Saw some great shows at the Cubby Bear.

The Best of Beat Tracks: VOL. ONE
Remember how beating the party used to be. I mean, the party never stopped. This particular strain of dance music has fascinated me for years. It's no wonder that "Italo Disco" made such a come back. We are all children in search of the future. Electronic music with African Roots. This is the Lowah of dance music. Some Chongo Shit...
This one was popular when I was in Jr. High. It was often mixed with "Freeze". So much, that I thought it was them, when I was a boy, growing my ears.
FREEZE... Rock!
Here's my jam...
... and here's Ronnie's...
Get into the circle and show me what you've got. This Beat was made to JACK too...
Are you understanding, yet?
Here's some early Gene Ferris for that ass. Pre- Ferris Wheel. These were some fiercest dance floors I've ever been on. This is where I learned to beat it...
